Spirit House, 2004

300cm x 150cm x  150cm

This interactive sculpture was installed at Hill House Helensburgh, which was the home of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It was open to the public for the Summer of 2004. Drawing on the Buddhist tradition of adorning shrines with gold leaf, the viewer was invited to add a gold leaf to its interior whilst standing inside the dome. During the exhibition, dozens of Lillies were in full flower, creating an overwhelming scent inside the space.

The viewer was invited to stay inside and experience the full heartedness of the scent alone as a meditative activity.
