We as Women are Earth

Designer: Natalie Taylor

This sculpture shows the shrouded lifesize body cast of a pregnant woman at full term in her pregnancy. Tiny black silk butterflies have settled on her belly as if mourning her loss, and comforting her simultaneously. The butterflies are themselves are modelled on a British illustration showing the diversity of our native species, almost 55% of which are now under threat of extinction. How far will we push our living cousins towards this fate before we stop destroying their habitats and breeding grounds? Exhibited at Royal Scottish Academy 2020 online as the in person exhibition was cancelled.
