Potato Studies

A series of observed paintings and sculpture between 2010 and 2011

Inspired by the fantastic process of putting out roots in early Spring, whether the potato is underground or not (chitting) I decided to observe this process in ancient strains of potato kept at the Commonwealth Potato Collection at the James Hutton Institute. A wide variety of ancient potatoes are kept here and grown on year after year to preserve their inherent genetic pool and the huge diversity and scientific resource this offers.
